Models

All the Life Drawing groups in Wellington use both male and female models. This web site organises models for three separate art groups, and also freelance models on an as required basis to artists who need models on a casual basis. We also source models for Weta .

Artists Seeking Models

In addition to modelling for various art groups, some of our models are available for freelance work.

A variety of Life Models are available in varying ages and builds.

They can be contacted through this web site by e-mail at, mailto:wellingtonlifeart@gmail.com

Artists will need to supply some details of what their requirements are in terms of the model they seek, what the task is, duration and intended fee for the model.

We will endeavour to source the best suited model available. Photos of some models are available once a model has been approached about the work offer and agreed to release of their photo.

While this site has primarily been designed to assist artists and models in Wellington we also have a number of models in other parts of New Zealand listed in our database.

Wanting to be a Life Model

Interested in being a life model?. A number of people have expressed interest in being a life model for a variety of reasons - whether it be extra money from a part time job, the notion that it is easy money sitting around being to do nothing, the apparent glamour of the role, a different experience - what is it like being naked in front of a group of people, artists wishing to experience the models perspective, or unashamed exhibitionists.

It is not a glamorous role, it is hard work and if done well it is physically demanding and requires concentration. Art models are not fashion cat walk models and taking your clothes off is the easy part. A life model needs to be an actor, and an artist - they need to be creative, and above all they need to be fit and have good stamina and concentration.

If you are still interested, try standing still in front of the mirror for 20 minutes.

Still interested then email wellingtonlifeart@gmail.com

Provide your name and contact details, along with details of age, and a brief description. Photos will be required in due course.

You will then be contacted to discuss what is involved in becoming a life model.

In order to ensure that potential new models fully understand what is involved you will be required to sit in and observe what happens at an art group. This will be followed up with an interview and provision of further details of what is involved including etiquette, behaviour and expectations of models and artists towards each other.

Guide line Notes for Models. A copy of the Guideline Notes provided to models can be accessed Notes for Models.doc

Models Database. While this web site is primarily intended for the Wellington Life Drawing scene, we frequently receive requests for and from models in other places. This information is stored and where possible models and artists in the same location are put in touch. If you are a model outside of Wellington or from an art group or art school and wish to register on our Database forward your details by email to wellingtonlifeart@gmail.com

In view of a number of suggestions made the idea of a formal Models Register is being investigated. This is similar to that which exists in Great Britain, and would require models to register , as well groups seeking to use models. In conjunction with this there would be a nominal annual registration fee, it is proposed that this would amount to no more than administrative cost covering. Your thoughts on the matter email to wellingtonlifeart@gmail.com .

FAQ. It is also hoped that this web site will also be able to provide answers or solutions to any problems which may be enountered by models, or artists employing them.

Weta. Experienced models can now be referred to Weta Workshop who source their Life Model requirements through this source.

Taxation. Models are sourced and provided with work on a casual basis. There is no certainty of provision of work and models are self employed. Therefore they are responsible for their own tax liabilities. On this basis models are advised to maintain their own records of work undertaken and to make adequate provision for any tax liability they may incur.

Tuition

People wishing to find out more about learning to draw figures but have not previously had an opportunity to use a model may also contact this site. This can be organised on a group or individual basis.
